Four ferocious pups — the winners from last year’s Spooky Puppy costume contest — adorn this year’s batch of Spooky Puppy, a IPA bursting with tropical aromas.

A new strain from the scientists at Berkeley Yeast, specially tuned to create pineapple esters, lays the fruity foundation. Simcoe Cryo, HBC 586, and Strata hops add layers of blueberry, grapefruit, and a bouquet of fresh herbs. A touch of malty sweetness fills out the beer and stands up to the crunchy mouthfeel and lingering bitterness.
